I got a letter from my brother without even soliciting it. WhooHoo!

I went to a Russian Rock 'N' Roll concert last night. It was held in the equivalent of a highschool auditorium, and the lights were up on the audience almost the entire concert, so that the militsia could see us attendees in order to control us. Something wonderfully Russian about all this.

The group was Splin (Spleen), and I didn't actually know anything about them when I bought the ticket. But they were good. It was an enjoyable concert. I will purchase a disc or two. They've got two guitars (one played by the singer), bass, keyboards, drum set, and floutist. They jammed. They sang. They hopped around. The flute guy was singing along to all the songs even when it wasn't his part, and he kept sort of half acting out the words. It was funny. All the little Russian fan girls all very seriously singing along and hopping around wildly. And at the end of the concert, the lead singer (Sasha) brought out his camera and asked the audience if he could take our picture. Charming little Sashenka.
